That music is one of football star Sergio Ramos’s passions in life is no surprise. He has shown it on more than one occasion, and we’ve seen him sing plenty of times. But now, at last, he has decided to release his first solo track.

It’s called Cibeles and yes—if you were thinking of a tribute to Real Madrid, you guessed right. It’s a song where he makes clear his relationship with the team to which he gave his heart for so long, revealing what that feeling was really like. From what he hints, it wasn’t equally intense in both directions.

He hasn’t been subtle. Everyone knows that Madridismo has its home at Cibeles, in addition to the Bernabéu. Just in case you didn’t know, the song is called «Cibeles» because the Cibeles fountain in Madrid is a symbol of Real Madrid, where the team’s victories are celebrated, reflecting Ramos’s deep connection and memories with the club.

And that statue, where he celebrated so many victories, has given its name to his debut as a singer.

It’s a track he wrote himself, produced alongside urban music heavyweights Ovy On The Drums and Yeray, and mixed and mastered by Mosty. Moreover, the music video has been produced by Little Spain, C. Tangana’s production company.

A Message to Florentino Pérez

It would be interesting to know Florentino Pérez’s reaction upon hearing it, because some lines point directly at him:
“There are things I never told you, that still hurt me. I never wanted to leave, you asked me to fly.”

“You pushed me aside, without being able to decide. That’s what hurts the most,” he adds, making clear how painful his departure from his beloved team was. Even so, he leaves the door open to reconciliation. Maybe not as a player anymore, but he wouldn’t mind returning to the club in another role: “I’d come back gladly. Once and up to a thousand times,” he declares.

A Musical Career

You have to go back to 2012 to recall the footballer’s musical debut, when he released A quién le voy a contar mis penas with Canelita. Later came his participation in the Spanish National Team’s Euro 2016 anthem La Roja Baila alongside Niña Pastori and RedOne. We also saw him in Otra estrella en tu corazón with Demarco Flamenco and No me contradigas with Los Yakis, showing his Andalusian roots. And of course, being in Mexico, Carín León couldn’t be left out.

Now he embarks on a new stage where his life, feelings, and relationship with football take center stage. Being so personal, he could only sing it in first person and solo. He’s left nothing inside. Now the question is whether this will be the first of many more tracks. Although he’s still active at 39 with Monterrey FC, he may already have his new path lined up.

The news of this release quickly drew reactions from the music industry:

  • Maluma: 🔥🔥🔥
  • Greeicy: 🔥🔥Now I understand everything🔥🔥
  • India Martínez: Vamoooooo!!!

Omar Montes: Big hit, brother ❤️

Lyrics of Cibeles (English translation)

There are things I never told you
That still hurt me
I never wanted to leave
You asked me to fly

Whoa oh oh
You asked me to fly
Mmm
You asked me

I would have died for you
I loved you and I defended you
But it wasn’t up to me
You asked me to fly

I dressed in my best
I gave you blood and sweat
I enjoyed you and I suffered you
I hope things go well for you

Even though without you I feel bad
Good thing I walked away
Because you didn’t treat me the same
You loved me and I loved you
But someone always gives more

It was all like I dreamed
Until it was time to wake up

I gave you crowns
You gave me wings
I didn’t know they were only to push me away

And I look at you now
You’re just as beautiful
Life teaches you no one is indispensable

A match lasts 90
And I gave you 90 and three more on top
I never got tired of trying
This story was a legend

I’d rather die on my feet than live on my knees
I’ll give my heart, even if it comes back to me broken

I hope things go well for you
Even though without you I feel bad
Good thing I walked away
Because you didn’t treat me the same

You loved me and I loved you
But someone always gives more
It was all like I dreamed
Until it was time to wake up

You forgot about me
You pushed me aside
Without being able to decide
That’s what hurts the most

And even though it was like that
I’d gladly come back
Once and up to a thousand times
You know it, Cibeles
