Rosalía May Appear in a New Film: What’s the Movie?

This could mark a new chapter for the singer in the film industry

Rosalía could appear in a movie. That’s right—while the Spanish singer is primarily known for her music, her talent isn’t limited to just the stage. As we’ve seen, it’s not uncommon for singers to take on roles ranging from cameos to leading parts in short films and movies.

Although there’s no official confirmation yet, several clues have fueled speculation about Rosalía’s potential involvement in the film or its soundtrack. The movie is called La Bola Negra, directed by Spanish filmmakers Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi.

They have described La Bola Negra as ‘a queer reimagining’ of Spain. The film takes its name from an unfinished work by Federico García Lorca, only four pages long, that tells the story of a man rejected because of his sexual orientation. “He couldn’t finish it because he was killed,” the directors explained during the project’s presentation in January.

The film will explore the lives of three men from different generations, whose stories are connected by sexuality, desire, heritage, and pain. With this focus, the movie is expected to have a strong emotional impact, with a narrative that’s committed to diversity and historical memory.

Rosalía’s Connection with Los Javis

The speculation about Rosalía’s potential involvement in La Bola Negra started after a few key hints. In October 2024, Los Javis revealed on the Spanish show El Hormiguero that they share a special bond with the ‘Despechá’ singer, though they kept the details private.

When host Pablo Motos asked what they had given Rosalía for her birthday in Paris, where she celebrated her 32nd with stars like the Kardashians and Bad Gyal, the directors shared: “An old signed photo from more than 100 years ago, a precious relic of something personal that connects us.” They also added, “It’s a secret gift because it’s linked to… I’d love to tell you, but everything has its time.”

There’s another important clue: Rosalía was invited to Los Javis’ New Year’s Eve party, where, during the toast, the filmmakers mentioned that everyone there would be part of their projects for 2025. Coincidentally, the filming of La Bola Negra is set to begin this year, sparking fans’ hopes that Rosalía may play a role in the film or contribute with her music.

If this is confirmed, it would mark a new chapter for Rosalía in the film industry, following her appearance in Pedro Almodóvar’s Dolor y Gloria. For now, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to see if she’s joining the movie.
