Oscars Host Conan O’Brien’s Savage Joke About Karla Sofía Gascón

Karla Sofía Gascón has been kept out of the public eye during the 2025 Oscars voting process following the intense controversy over her racist tweets. It has been a tough few weeks for the actress, with rumors circulating that she would not attend the ceremony.

Ultimately, Karla did make an appearance at the Dolby Theatre as a nominee for Emilia Perez (although with little chance of success), but she did not walk the red carpet.

Conan O’Brien, the Oscars host, did not hesitate to address Karla Sofía Gascón’s presence with humor.

O’Brien began by pointing out that Anora, nominated for Best Picture, «uses the F-word 479 times,» and went on to joke that this was «three more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.»

The joke didn’t end there. O’Brien then addressed Karla directly, who didn’t seem to fully understand what he was saying but responded with a smile. «And Karla, if you’re going to tweet about the Oscars, remember—my name is Jimmy Kimmel,» he joked again, referencing the host who had led the ceremony in previous years.
