Pop stars Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams have once again used their platforms to bring attention to the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. On Tuesday, July 22, both artists shared an Instagram Story featuring a post by popular children’s content creator Ms. Rachel, who has become a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights.
The post, which includes an image of a visibly malnourished child, highlights the dire conditions in the region: «I never thought I would witness babies being deliberately starved while formula supplies sit untouched just miles away,» the message reads. «I never thought people I respect—people who have always spoken up for children—would see this too, and stay silent.»
Rodrigo and Abrams also liked the post on Ms. Rachel’s main Instagram feed, helping to further amplify its reach.
A Clear and Ongoing Stance
The current phase of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, which escalated dramatically on October 7, 2023, after a deadly Hamas-led attack that left around 1,200 Israelis dead and over 250 taken hostage, is part of a much longer and deeply rooted struggle. Since then, Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 60,000 Palestinians—many of them civilians and children—according to recent estimates.
Due to the asymmetry of forces between the two territories—marked by Israel’s technical superiority and the systematic attacks on the Palestinian population—numerous organizations have classified the conflict as a genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza.
This has triggered global outrage, including from figures in the entertainment industry. Artists like Gracie Abrams and Olivia Rodrigo have joined a growing chorus calling for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilian lives, underscoring the urgent need for both humanitarian relief and a long-term political resolution.
Abrams previously signed the Artists4Ceasefire letter in 2023, alongside figures like Drake, Jennifer Lopez, and Dua Lipa. Earlier in July, Rodrigo shared a personal statement expressing:
«I don’t have words to describe the anguish I feel watching the devastation being inflicted on innocent people in Palestine.»
She continued, «Mothers, fathers, and children in Gaza are starving, dehydrated, and being denied access to basic medical care and humanitarian aid.»
In recent weeks, other artists such as Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey have also publicly voiced concern over the suffering in Gaza, joining an urgent conversation that cuts across borders and musical genres.
