Nosferatu is the latest film from Robert Eggers, a rising talent in the horror genre who’s already considered one of its new masters. Eggers takes on the ambitious task of remaking Nosferatu, one of the most iconic horror films in cinematic history.

The movie tells the story of Thomas Hutter, a 19th-century real estate agent who travels to Transylvania to sell a mansion to Nosferatu, an ancient vampire posing as a powerful Romanian count.

The original Nosferatu premiered over a century ago in 1922 and is still considered a landmark of German Expressionism, known for its distorted realities and exaggerated human traits. Choosing Robert Eggers to direct this remake was a smart move—he’s a master of suspense and dark, period-set stories. Naturally, we couldn’t help but ask him: does he think the past is scarier than the present?

This updated version of the iconic classic features an impressive cast, including Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, and Emma Corrin. Lily-Rose Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp, also stars as Ellen Hutter, the central character in this retelling.

Interview With De Estreno

At De Estreno, we had the chance to talk with the cast, starting with Willem Dafoe. He shared what it was like being the most experienced actor on set and reflected on whether he felt any personal connection to his character.

What’s New in This Version

One major change in this version is Ellen’s role. Unlike the 1922 original, Ellen has a much more prominent part in the story, with a direct connection to the vampire Nosferatu. Her demonic possession becomes the heart of the narrative, making her character the driving force behind the entire plot.

When it comes to Nosferatu, we have to talk about the vampire and the actor who brings him to life. You’ve probably heard of Bill Skarsgård, and if not, you’ve definitely seen his terrifying portrayal of Pennywise in IT, one of horror’s most iconic characters. In this version of Nosferatu, Skarsgård steps into the role of Count Orlok, delivering a performance that’s as chilling as it gets, especially with his eerie voice work.

This movie is designed to keep you on edge and thoroughly creeped out. From the carefully crafted sets to the haunting performances, Nosferatu pulls you into a dark, oppressive atmosphere that doesn’t let up for the entire two hours.
