Mexican actor Manuel Masalva, best known for his role in Narcos: Mexico, was hospitalized urgently in Dubai after suffering complications from a rare bacterial infection he picked up while vacationing in the Philippines. His condition became so serious that doctors placed him in a medically induced coma, and for a while, it was unclear what would happen. After several weeks of uncertainty, there’s finally good news: Manuel has woken up and has started to respond and reconnect with people close to him.

At one point, things were critical. The infection took a serious toll on his health, and doctors had to act fast—inducing a coma to begin an aggressive treatment. After days of anxiety and uncertainty, there was finally a turning point: the right antibiotics started to work, and doctors gradually began to reduce the sedation.

According to his representative, Jaime Jaramillo, waking up was a slow and emotionally intense process for Masalva. “He had to process everything that was happening to him,” Jaramillo said. Still, he added that the improvement in recent days has been clear. “Every small step forward is a big one,” he said.

Support from His Fans Was Felt

As Manuel faced this serious health battle, his colleagues and fans stepped up to help. Several fundraising efforts were organized to support his family with hospital expenses. One of the most meaningful was a fan event held on May 11, featuring the cast of Tengo que Morir Todas las Noches.

Actress Nova Coronel, who led the gathering, explained that the goal was simple: to help Manuel. “We raised a good amount of money, and the best part is I’ve already exchanged a few WhatsApp messages with him. That alone feels like a big win,” she said with a smile.

While his condition has improved, there’s still no set date for Manuel Masalva’s return to Mexico. His recovery continues to be delicate, though his progress is becoming more noticeable with each passing day. For now, he remains in Dubai under medical care, surrounded by the love of his family—and all the fans who continue sending him their best wishes from afar.
