It’s finally official: we now know who will play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in the new original series based on J.K. Rowling’s books. After some early casting announcements for supporting characters, HBO has revealed the three young actors who will bring the iconic trio to life.
Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. All three are newcomers to the entertainment world — a choice that adds a fresh and exciting element to the project.
After months of speculation, open casting calls, and plenty of fan theories, HBO has finally shared the names of the actors who will wear the most famous wizard robes in pop culture. All three actors are making their professional debut, meaning this series will mark their big break in the world of global entertainment. According to HBO, talent was the top priority in the casting process.

The upcoming series promises to be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s original books, with the author also serving as an executive producer. Each season will focus on one of the seven novels, allowing for a more in-depth look at storylines, characters, and details that didn’t make it into the films.
In addition to showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, the creative team includes Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts from Brontë Film and TV. As well as David Heyman, producer of the original Harry Potter films, from Heyday Films. The series is being produced by Warner Bros. Television and Brontë Film and TV, in partnership with HBO.
The series will be available exclusively on HBO Max, including in new regions where the platform is launching soon, such as Germany, Italy, and the UK. The original films will remain on the platform, so fans will have the chance to rewatch them—or even compare both versions as the new series rolls out.
While there’s no official premiere date yet, the announcement of the main cast marks a major step forward in production. One thing’s for sure: HBO is fully committed to bringing this new chapter of the Wizarding World to life.
Because Harry Potter isn’t just a story. It’s a cultural touchstone for an entire generation. With this new series, there’s a chance for a whole new audience to fall in love with the Wizarding World, while longtime fans revisit Hogwarts with fresh eyes. Casting newcomers in the lead roles sends a clear message: this isn’t about recreating what’s already been done, but about building something new that stays true to the heart of the original.

So get ready to hear the whistle of the Hogwarts Express once more, to be sorted by the Sorting Hat, and to experience the magic all over again — from the very beginning. As Dumbledore wisely said, “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic.” And this story is just getting started.
