Karol G recently dropped her much-anticipated studio album, Tropicoqueta, and she’s kicking things off with the lead single ‘Papasito,’ which arrived alongside a music video. In it, La Bichota pays tribute to the golden age of Latin American cinema from the 1950s. And what’s a classic film tribute without a leading man? This time, that role goes to actor Danny Ramirez.

If his name doesn’t sound familiar, it might be time to take note. Danny has become one of the most recognizable faces in recent film—not because he’s in every movie, but because the ones he has been in are some of the biggest box office hits of the past few years, including roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Born in 1992 in Chicago and raised in Miami, Danny comes from a Mexican-Colombian background, which explains his bilingual fluency. Interestingly, acting wasn’t always in his plans—he originally wanted to pursue a career in soccer. But after an injury changed his path, he found his way to acting. Judging by his rising success, it’s safe to say the switch worked out pretty well.

His Debut and Career

Danny made his acting debut at 24 with a small role in The Affair. From there, he started landing guest spots on shows like Blindspot and Orange Is the New Black, eventually taking on more substantial roles in series like The Giftedand On My Block. His big break came when he joined the Marvel Universe in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the second original series from Marvel Studios after WandaVision. He’s now set to return as Joaquin Torres in Captain America: Brave New World.

In 2022, he appeared in Top Gun: Maverick as Lieutenant Mickey “Fanboy” Garcia, a role that brought him even more visibility. The movie was a box office hit, grossing over $1.44 billion worldwide and becoming one of the most successful sequels in recent years.

This isn’t his first time playing the romantic lead in a music video either. He also starred in ‘Mercedes’ by Becky G and Oscar Maydon. The chemistry was intense on screen, but it stayed there—just acting. As far as we know, Danny is currently single, although he keeps his personal life pretty private and mainly uses social media to share updates about his projects.

Among his upcoming projects, Danny is set to take on a new challenge: directing. He’s stepping behind the camera to write, direct, and star in Baton, a soccer drama that brings him full circle to one of his early passions—football. The film will also feature Victoria Alonso in a starring role.

Adding even more star power, the project is being produced by David Beckham through his company, Studio 99. With Beckham’s football expertise in the mix, Baton is already shaping up to be a must-watch for both movie lovers and soccer fans alike.
