Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested on August 21 after a truly surreal scene on the streets of California. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to multiple calls reporting a man wandering around half-naked—wearing only white underwear and white cowboy boots.

Official sources say that Lil Nas X allegedly charged at the officers, which led to his immediate arrest. Before being booked into jail, he was treated by emergency services and taken to a hospital for what was believed to be a possible overdose.

On August 25, the rapper was released on bail after spending the entire weekend in custody. Nas, who had been detained on Ventura Boulevard the previous Thursday, now faces four felony charges: three counts of assault causing injury to a police officer and one count of resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty before the Los Angeles court.

In the Holding Cell

The ‘Industry Baby’ singer spent the entire weekend behind bars, and yesterday—after pleading not guilty in his preliminary hearing—a judge set his bail at $75,000. That figure was significantly lower than the $300,000 initially recommended by the District Attorney’s office, according to Billboard. The court also scheduled a new hearing for next month.

On September 15, it will be decided whether the case moves forward to trial. For now, Lil Nas X remains free on bail, with public attention fixed on him and his professional future hanging in the balance. If found guilty, the singer could face up to three years in prison per charge—a potential sentence of twelve years in total.

Amid the uproar, the artist’s father denied that his son was under the influence of drugs at the time of the arrest, though medical reports have not yet been made public. As part of his bail conditions, Lil Nas X must attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings or enroll in an outpatient addiction treatment program.
