Kate Moss, the iconic British model who defined the ’90s and 2000s, is getting her own biopic. The film will be set in the early 2000s — a moment when Moss was already an undisputed fashion figure and well on her way to cementing her status as a cultural icon.
Titled Moss and Freud, the movie will dive into a pivotal chapter of her personal and professional life. As the name suggests, it focuses on Moss’s relationship with painter Lucian Freud. Plot twist, the grandson of Sigmund Freud and one of the most influential figures in contemporary art.
Despite Lucian’s well-known aversion to celebrities — he even refused to paint Princess Diana — Freud changed his mind with Moss. This happened when he discovered that Kate had once admitted in an interview that one of her greatest wishes was to be painted by him.

That revelation sparked a creative process that lasted nine intense months, with sittings three nights a week that began at dusk and stretched well into the early hours of the morning.
From those encounters came some truly memorable moments. On one occasion, Moss showed up a few minutes late and Freud bluntly asked if she had been using drugs. She replied no — she was actually pregnant. That unusual dynamic ended up forging an unexpected friendship.
The intimate nature of that experience explains Moss’s direct involvement in the film. As an executive producer, she wanted to have control over key details of the project — including choosing the actress who would portray her on screen. The script was written by Oscar-winner James Lucas, promising a film with strong artistic and narrative ambition.
Naturally, one of the biggest questions is who will take on the role of the supermodel. The responsibility has gone to British actress Ellie Bamber. Her most notable work includes a recent role in the film Guillermo Tell. She also appearances in international productions like The Show, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, and Nocturnal Animals.
Beyond her physical resemblance to Moss, the model herself has overseen the process to ensure Bamber captures her essence and understands the nuances of her personality.

Early leaked images from the set show that the movie won’t just focus on Moss’s chapter with Freud. But will also revisit some of her most iconic life moments — like the celebration of her 30th birthday or her unforgettable pixie haircut transformation.
Derek Jacobi will take on the role of Freud in a film that aspires to reveal new dimensions of one of the most enigmatic supermodels of her time.
