Karol G has finally dropped her long-awaited fifth studio album, Tropicoqueta. The 20-track record is a tribute to the Latin pop sounds she grew up with—full of nostalgic references and fresh explorations. In this album, the Colombian star steps outside her comfort zone, singing not only in Spanish but also in Portuguese on ‘Bandida Entrenada,’ and in English on ‘Papasito’.

It’s ‘Papasito’ that Karol G chose as the lead single, releasing its music video on the same day as the album—at least in the U.S. And what is Carolina paying tribute to in this video? The golden age of 1950s Latin American cinema.

In the music video, she recreates the aesthetic of classic Mexican films known for their heartthrob leading men, intense romance, and iconic, sensual Latina women. Her look and presence are reminiscent of actresses like Amanda del Llano, a well-known figure in Mexico’s film scene at the time. Del Llano’s promising career sadly came to an early end after she appeared in an artistic nude during the 1950s—a bold move for the era.

Papasito…

The word ‘Papasito’ is a Spanish term of endearment that roughly translates to “hot guy,” “handsome man,” or “cutie” in English. It combines ‘papá’ (dad) with the diminutive -sito, but in informal and flirtatious contexts, it doesn’t literally mean “little dad.” Instead, it’s used to express physical attraction, similar to saying “hottie” or “babe” when referring to a man. So when Karol uses “Papasito” in her song, she’s playfully and affectionately calling someone irresistibly attractive.

For the role of ‘Papasito’, Karol G cast a Hollywood star: Danny Ramirez, an American actor of Latin descent who has appeared in Marvel films and Top Gun. But that’s not the only surprise—Karol also included a very special cameo: her mother, Martha Navarro, who makes a brief appearance at the end of the video, fanning the Tropicoqueta.

‘Papasito’ English Lyrics

[Verse 1]

I saw you there looking so good tonight
I swear to God, I’m dying to kiss you
My heart, baby, is beating so, so fast
I didn’t realize how much I needed you
You’re getting closer and now my legs
Started shaking
It would be delicious to get a taste of you
Right now, if I could try
I’d go completely crazy
I’d need rehab for that addiction

[Chorus]

Papacito, oh, how good you look
I want you—and not just for a little while
Touching your body is my desire
Please, don’t get mad if I steal a little kiss

[Verse 2]

I want something more, something official
To make you mine, and I don’t want to waste time
No, it’s not wrong—what we have is amazing
A little Polaroid pic—I’ll leave it so you’ll remember me
I’m gonna hold you so, so tight—that’s what I want
I’ll be your Juliet and you’ll be my Romeo
No one loves you like I do, with you I feel so lucky
Baby, I want you just for me

[Pre-Chorus]

Love me hard, with real feeling
Let’s stay together and live the crazy life
Let’s go for it—no regrets, no shadows
I’d need rehab
For this addiction

[Chorus]

Papacito, oh, how good you look
I want you—and not just for a little while
Touching your body is my desire
Please, don’t get mad if I steal a little kiss

[Interlude]

Oh, love
You’re my dream come true

[Chorus]

Papacito, oh, how good you look
I want you for me, not just for a bit
Desiring your body feels like a crime
Don’t be mad if I steal a little kiss
