Adriano Moreno — The Runarounds, the new Prime Video series, premiered on September 1 and tells the story of a group of high school grads who start a rock band during the summer in Wilmington. From there, the show weaves together storylines about friendship, love, and—most importantly—music.
What makes it stand out is that the cast aren’t just actors; they’re real musicians. And since the lineup already exists for the series, they’re actually heading out on a U.S. tour. It’s still early to know how Prime Video subscribers are responding to The Runarounds, but the fact that the band lives on outside the show gives the story a unique kind of continuity.
“They’ve got an album—a 17-track album. They’ve got a tour lined up; it’s all completely real,” Jonas Pate (producer) explained. “I think they’ll even be able to release albums between seasons that aren’t tied to the series. The band could make it on their own, without the TV show.”
For now, the future of The Runarounds is up in the air. Prime Video hasn’t made any official announcement about a second season, and it’s probably too soon—the series has only been streaming for a week. Showrunner Jonas Pate, who also co-created Outer Banks, has spoken about the possibility of continuing the story. At the same time, he’s hinted that the band could stand on its own, even without the show.
“They write all their own songs. I imagine they’ll release albums between seasons simply as a band. In fact, they’ve already started working on an album they hope to drop before a potential Season 2. They’re super prolific,” Pate said in another interview.

The Runarounds is Prime Video’s new teen series, following in the footsteps of hits like We Were Liars and The Summer I Turned Pretty. Created by Jonas Pate, the mind behind Outer Banks, the show is set in Wilmington, North Carolina, and follows five recent high school graduates who start a band and chase their musical dreams while navigating family drama, friendship, and first loves.
What makes this project stand out is that the cast aren’t just actors—they’re actual musicians. Every song in the series is an original track performed by the band. Season one drops with eight episodes and a 17-track album, already streaming on Spotify.
