It’s been 53 years since Mary Rodgers’ novel Freaky Friday first hit shelves in 1972. The book was so popular it inspired multiple adaptations and reimaginings across different formats and storylines.
Still, the most iconic version remains Freaky Friday (2003), directed by Mark Waters and starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as Tess and Anna Coleman. Their mother-daughter body swap quickly became a pop culture favorite for an entire generation.
Now, 22 years later, both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back for the highly anticipated sequel, joined by Julia Butters as Harper Coleman (Anna’s daughter), Sophia Hammons as Lily Davies, and Manny Jacinto as Eric Davies.

Anna is now a mom and about to marry a man whose daughter (Lily) just happens to be her own child’s sworn school rival. Tess, meanwhile, is officially a grandmother. With this new family dynamic, it’s safe to say more than a few hilarious and heartfelt conflicts are on the way.
Riva, from De Estreno on LOS40, sat down with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis to talk about their new movie. In this sequel, the same mysterious force that once took over Anna and Tess in the original film returns—this time to deliver a fresh lesson in love and empathy, not only to the protagonists but also to a new generation of their family.
One of the biggest takeaways from the original Freaky Friday was the friendship they built. Despite the age difference, their connection was genuine, which made returning to these roles feel natural—more like a celebration of that bond than a challenge.
Jamie Lee and Lindsay also revealed they had a blast filming the sequel. In the first movie, they didn’t share many scenes together, but this time around, that’s completely different—something both of them truly enjoyed.
