Laura Coca — Seven years later, something many thought would never happen finally did: Fifth Harmony is back. The iconic girl group, who first rose to fame in 2012, made a surprise appearance at the Jonas Brothers’ concert in Dallas on August 31. The unexpected reunion left millions of fans completely shocked.
One person missing from the stage, though, was Camila Cabello, who left the group in 2016 to launch her solo career. Fans quickly flooded social media with pleas for her to rejoin the band. While there’s been no official word on that, we did get a glimpse of Camila’s reaction to her former bandmates’ comeback.
In a video posted on Fifth Harmony’s official Instagram, Camila dropped a string of red heart emojis—a simple but clear sign of support for the girl group’s new chapter. And of course, fans immediately noticed.
Fifth Harmony is a cultural phenomenon that defined an entire generation. Formed in 2012 during the second season of The X Factor USA, the group was created by bringing together five young solo artists under the watchful eye of Simon Cowell.
Even though they didn’t win the competition, their impact was instant. With a sound that blended pop and R&B and lyrics centered on female empowerment, Fifth Harmony quickly became a global reference point. Their first EP, Better Together, and their debut album Reflection (2015) delivered hits like ‘Miss Movin’ On,’ ‘Sledgehammer, and ‘Worth It’—the latter earning triple-platinum status.
In 2016, the group dropped 7/27, featuring the smash hit ‘Work From Home,’ which climbed into the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100—making them the first girl group in a decade to achieve that milestone. But later that same year, Camila Cabello announced her departure, a decision that sparked plenty of controversy and speculation.
Fifth Harmony carried on as a quartet, releasing a self-titled album in 2017. Still, by March 2018, the group announced an indefinite hiatus so each member could focus on their own projects. Now, they’re back—and it looks like they’re ready to go all in once again.
