Alberto Palao — Lola Tung is ready to take a big new step in her career, teaming up with one of the most intriguing voices in modern horror: Osgood Perkins. The actress, who became a breakout star thanks to season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty, will headline The Young People. A film that promises to keep mystery fans on the edge of their seats.
The movie is set to start filming this fall in Vancouver and will be produced by Neon and Lyrical Media—two studios that have made bold moves in the horror genre in recent years.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, a script has already sparked speculation among horror fans. It references something called “The Old Ones,” a phrase that immediately lit up conversations among followers of H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror mythology.

The project is written and directed by Perkins himself, who is also producing alongside Chris Ferguson (Phobos) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Range). Following the success of Longlegs and the highly anticipated Keeper, Perkins has solidified his place as one of today’s most notable horror directors.
The Young People is expected to fall under the umbrella of cosmic horror. This subgenre moves away from traditional jump scares to focus on the fear of the unknown, the incomprehensible, and the infinite.
Instead of masked killers or visible monsters, this kind of horror thrives on ancient entities, forces beyond human logic, and an atmosphere of existential insignificance.

Writers like H.P. Lovecraft popularized the genre, often putting characters face-to-face with truths so overwhelming they threaten their sanity. In film, titles such as The Thing, The Mist, and more recently The Endless have explored this kind of horror, blending science fiction, philosophy, and a constant sense that there’s something far bigger—and far scarier—than us out there.
