Laura Coca—Raphaël Graven, better known online as Jean Pormanove, has died at the age of 46 during a livestream on the platform Kick. His death happened between the night of August 17 and 18 in a rented residence in Contes, France. The news has shocked the country and reopened the debate around the limits of online content.
French authorities have launched an investigation into the case. Graven’s lifeless body appeared on the livestream, which had been running for several days on Kick. The footage shows him lying motionless on a mattress while others in the room tried to revive him — some even mocking him during the attempts. At one point, someone threw a bottle at him.
Pormanove had over half a million followers and became known for extreme challenges and for allowing other creators to humiliate him live. For months, he was subjected to both verbal and physical abuse on stream — something many described as a disturbing form of “consensual violence” turned into entertainment.

The Nice prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Although no suspicious signs were found at first, an autopsy has been ordered and people close to the streamer are being questioned.
France’s Secretary of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy, Clara Chappaz, publicly condemned what happened. In a message on X (formerly Twitter), she called Pormanove’s death and the abuse he suffered “an absolute horror” and demanded answers from Kick. She also activated official mechanisms such as Pharos and ARCOM to review the responsibility of digital platforms in spreading violent content.
Le décès de Jean Pormanove et les violences qu’il a subies sont une horreur absolue. J’adresse toutes mes condoléances à sa famille et à ses proches.

The case has reignited debate over the regulation of social networks and the protection of the most vulnerable users. Jean Pormanove, who for months symbolized a troubling trend in the streaming world, now stands as a stark reminder of the urgent need to set clear limits in the digital space — especially for younger generations.
From LOS40, we send our condolences to the family and loved ones of Raphaël Graven.
