Ed Sheeran kicked off the European leg of his Mathematics Tour with two sold-out shows in Madrid and took the opportunity to stop by the LOS40 central studios in the city.

In a surprise interview with Tony Aguilar on ‘Del 40 al 1 Coca-Cola’ this past May 31, Sheeran received a commemorative plaque for reaching number 1 on the Lista LOS40 chart with Azizam —which means ‘my dear’ or ‘my love’ in Persian (Farsi). Reaching the top spot here is a major milestone, as our station is the leading music broadcaster in the Hispanic world, both in Spain and Latin America. The emotional track tells a vibrant love story and is part of his upcoming album Play, out in September 12.

During the interview, the British singer-songwriter shared that his performances in Madrid’s Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium have been some of his favorite shows of the entire tour. Fans at the concerts were also treated to an exclusive preview of his next single, Shappire, another track from the upcoming record.

«It was the first song I finished for the album—it really gave the whole project meaning. I was heavily inspired by Indian culture and rhythms, and we even went there to record it with a bunch of local writers and arrangers,» Sheeran said about ‘Shappire.’

He also reflected on his many memorable moments in Spain with LOS40, including the 2021 LOS40 Music Awards in Mallorca, where he was the most awarded international artist of the night. «We had a great time—I really felt the love that night, so thank you,» he added.
