David Hekili Kenui Bell, a beloved actor from Hawaii, passed away on June 12, 2025, at just 46 years old. His sister, Jalene Kanani Bell, shared a touching tribute on Facebook, calling him “sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant, and handsome”—adding that he will now rest in the company of their Heavenly Father.
Bell made his big-screen debut as the charming “Shave Ice Man” (also referred to as ‘Big Hawaiian Dude’) in Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, which premiered in May 2025. He was also well-known for roles in Hawaii Five‑0 (2014) and Magnum P.I. (2018–2019). He was set to appear in the upcoming The Wrecking Crew, alongside Jason Momoa.
However, Bell was more than an actor—he was a local hero. He proudly represented Hawaii, seamlessly blending English, Pidgin, and Indigenous Hawaiian languages into his life and roles. According to The Cut, outside of acting, he served as assistant director at Kona International Airport, where travelers often heard his warm, welcoming voice over the PA system.
