Charli XCX to Star in a Documentary About Her Life Titled ‘The Moment’

The British singer will collaborate with the acclaimed production company A24

Charli XCX, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, had the biggest year of her career in 2024 with her album Brat, which was named Rolling Stone‘s Best Album of the Year. The project showcased her unique hyperpop sound and firmly established her as one of the most influential artists in the music industry today.

Now, Variety has revealed that the British singer will collaborate with the acclaimed production company A24—famous for films like Midsommar, Past Lives, and Aftersun—to star in a movie about her life. The film, titled The Moment, will be produced through Charli XCX’s newly launched film company, Studio365.

This marks the directorial debut of Scottish filmmaker Aidan Zamiri, who also co-wrote the script with Bertie Brandes. The music will be composed by AG Cook, Charli’s longtime collaborator and a key contributor to Brat.

Experience in Film

Charli XCX shared that she’s been preparing for quite some time to make sure her new project is thoughtful and well-researched. “I hate it when musicians dive into a different field, head-first, without really researching or learning much of anything about it. So I did a lot of reading to educate myself over the past three or four years before I actually did anything,” she said in an interview.

This isn’t her first time exploring the world of film. She starred in the documentary-style movie Charli XCX: Alone Together, which followed the creative process behind her album How I’m Feeling Now. She’s also done voice work for animated films like The Angry Birds Movie and UglyDolls.

Brat: An Artistic Manifesto

On June 7, 2024, Charli XCX released her sixth studio album, Brat, under Atlantic Records. With its edgy sounds and bold, defiant aesthetic, the album has already been recognized as a defining moment in her career and one of the standout releases of 2024.

Right from the start, Charli made it clear that Brat wouldn’t be your typical album. On her private Instagram, she shared: “The cover of ‘Brat’ will be bold, arrogant, and unapologetic. Some people will hate it.” This message underscored her intent to challenge expectations and create something intentionally provocative.

The album’s artwork, with its eye-catching neon green and bold, text-heavy design, perfectly captures her rebellious vision and commitment to breaking the mold.
