The highly anticipated 2025 MET Gala has officially wrapped, and as expected, it delivered plenty of unforgettable style moments. With the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York transformed into a celebration of heritage, elegance, and craftsmanship.
This year’s theme put the spotlight on the rich history and cultural significance of Black dandyism. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s influential 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, it explored how style has long served as a powerful tool for resistance, self-expression, and identity within the Black community.
The dress code, “Tailored for You,” invited guests to bring their own interpretation to classic tailoring. The goal was to celebrate personal expression through fashion while honoring its transformative role. It also marked the Met Gala’s first menswear-focused theme since 2003, with a special emphasis on how tailoring has shaped and reflected Black identity over time.
The red carpet was filled with hats, tweeds, corsets, vests, and sharp cuts. Many stars embraced the theme with precision and flair — including Bad Bunny, Zendaya, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, Maluma, and Sabrina Carpenter, all turning heads for the right reasons.
However, not everyone seemed to get the memo. A few guests strayed far from the theme — and likely faced the unblinking judgment of Anna Wintour, Vogue’s global editorial director.
Here are a few celebrities whose looks had us questioning whether they fully got the memo…
Rosalía is usually one of our red carpet favorites, but this time, the Spanish singer didn’t quite land the theme. Wearing a structured mermaid-style gown by Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing, she delivered a striking look reminiscent of a modern bride. While the outfit dazzled and earned plenty of applause, it didn’t fully reflect the spirit of this year’s Met Gala theme.
Shakira was one of the most anticipated guests of the night, making her second appearance at the event. She wowed the crowd in a dramatic pink gown by Prabal Gurung, but the look didn’t completely align with the evening’s concept. Still, she stood out with one of the longest dress trains on the carpet.
Wednesday star Jenna Ortega walked the Met Gala carpet in a Balmain look that blended metallic appliqués with the feel of medieval armor, paired with soft 1930s-inspired waves. Although the style suited her well and made a statement, it didn’t quite match the tailoring-centered theme of the night.
Even with a theme that offered some creative freedom—focusing on custom-made pieces—animal print still felt like a misstep. Model Precious Lee was named among the evening’s worst-dressed for her look. While her jumpsuit worked in terms of texture and tone, the leopard-print robe layered on top was a definite miss, according to fashion critics.
Pamela Anderson surprised on the red carpet with a fresh haircut and her signature no-makeup look. She wore a floor-length, crystal-embellished gown with cap sleeves by Tory Burch, combining understated elegance with a touch of sparkle.
