The artist has faced criticism for his comments, despite sending a message of love to the LGBT+ community

Carín León has spoken out about the rumors circulating regarding his sexual orientation, which were sparked by a fake video created using artificial intelligence showing him kissing Espinoza Paz. In response, León used his Instagram stories to dismiss the speculation, highlighting with a sarcastic tone:

«I’ve been waking up with this condition of being gay for three days, because people imposed it on me. Since people have the power to cancel, to say what each person is, if I’m this or I’m that, since you decide everything that happens in my life, well, I woke up being gay three days ago because that’s what people wanted,» says the artist.

Although León’s intent was to take the topic with humor, the truth is that he reflected some prejudices about the LGBT+ community in his jokes, which didn’t sit well with his fans.

«Study in life so you know that homosexuality is not a disease, and it doesn’t have ‘symptoms,'» commented one user on the social media platform X. «He should’ve just kept quiet. 90% of the things he said are so mid-20th century that if he intended to help or clarify something, he only generated pity,» added another.

These comments were criticized as they were understood to equate homosexuality with a disease. The singer also directed a message to his LGBTQ+ fans.

«I think the sexual orientation of any person is secondary today. We see so many people with very varied and different sexual preferences who are super-mega-hyper-successful,» he added.

León and Paz collaborated for the first time on “Cómo duele equivocarse.” In the last week, León won his first Grammy for Best Mexican Music Album with Boca Chueca, Vol. 1, defeating stars like Peso Pluma. Now, he faces the upcoming Premio Lo Nuestro 2025, leading the nominations alongside Becky G, with 10 mentions each.
