Wicked has already grossed over €640 million at the global box office. The movie’s soundtrack debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, making it the most successful musical album from a film adaptation. Everything that has to do with Oz is magical—and this version, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, is no exception.

Back in June, we got our first look at the trailer for the sequel Wicked: For Good, which will hit theaters exactly one year after the first installment, on November 21. There’s no doubt: it has become a global phenomenon.

This second part covers the events of Act II from the original musical. Elphaba is accused of treason and becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda struggles with her new role as Glinda the Good, manipulated by the Wizard and Madame Morrible. Dorothy also plays a much more prominent role, clearly linking the plot with The Wizard of Oz for the first time. With a darker tone than the first film, the sequel dives deeper into the emotional conflicts between the main characters.

Yes, It Will Include New Songs

Composer Stephen Schwartz has acknowledged the pressure of following up the success of the first movie — the highest-grossing film adaptation of a Broadway musical. He is currently finalizing two brand-new songs, which are being orchestrally recorded this July: one for Elphaba («No Good Deed») and one for Glinda («As Long As You’re Mine»).

So, When Is The Wicked Concert?

We may get to hear those songs live on November 6, as NBC has announced the date for the broadcast of a special concert featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo performing music from Wicked. The next day, the concert will be available to stream on Peacock.

So far, it’s confirmed that the two-hour event will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. It will include songs from the first movie as well as a preview of music from the upcoming sequel, which premieres just a few days later.

We’ve only seen Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo perform together off-screen on rare occasions. One notable moment was at the 2025 Oscars, where they sang Defying Gravity. Separately, they’ve also performed Home from The Wiz and Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz. That same Oscar night, Wicked won two Academy Awards — Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

This concert will truly be a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience Wicked’s music live, performed by its two leading stars.
