Why J. Cole’s ‘She Knows’ Is Now Linked to the P. Diddy Controversy

The song has gone viral and is now at the center of conspiracy theories involving Beyoncé and Jay-Z

The Diddy case is likely to stay in the headlines for quite a while. As it usually does when a scandal of this size involves so many celebrities. The rapper has been in jail since September 16th, and the accusations against him keep snowballing.

Just this week, a team of lawyers held a press conference, saying they’ve received over 3,000 calls with information about Diddy’s possible crimes. For now, they plan to file a joint lawsuit with 120 victims, including around 25 who were minors when they were allegedly abused by the rapper.

It seems like everything we’ve seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg, and, as expected, social media is buzzing with reactions to this case. There’s even a “scandal soundtrack” now—you’ve probably noticed ‘She Knows’ by J. Cole, a 2013 track about infidelity, playing a lot lately. Including Justin Bieber’s song ‘Yummy,’ which has resurfaced due to the same reason.

The She Knows Conspiracy Theory

Why is this song suddenly popping up in so many videos about the case? It all started with a conspiracy theory that’s been making the rounds on platforms like TikTok. A lot of people think ‘Knows’ is actually a wordplay on Beyoncé’s last name, Knowles, linking her and her husband, Jay-Z, to Diddy’s shady dealings.

Some believe their frequent appearances at these parties, now being exposed, make it hard to believe they didn’t know what was going on, directly tying the couple to the scandal. It’s hard to ignore how the singer’s follower count has been dropping by millions since the arrest. And if you look at the comments on her posts, you’ll keep seeing people write ‘She Knows,’ hinting that she knew what was happening.

But that’s not all. In one part of the song’s lyrics, J. Cole mentions the deaths of Aaliyah, Left Eye, and Michael Jackson. Some people have taken this to fuel conspiracy theories, suggesting these names were chosen because of their rumored ties to Diddy, hinting he may have been involved in their tragic deaths. Of course, for now, these are just speculations driven by everything that’s unfolding.

Taken Down from YouTube

The conspiracy theory only picked up steam when ‘She Knows’ disappeared from YouTube in the U.S. Many believed it was Roc Nation’s attempt to stop fueling the rumors.

DJ Akademiks posted on X that Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s label that signed J. Cole in 2009, had filed a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown to remove the song after it had gone viral on TikTok, where users were directly accusing them of being involved in the criminal scandal.

The DMCA is a law that protects copyrighted material and prevents it from being shared without the creator’s permission. Followers of Akademiks said that removing the song at that point only made Roc Nation look even more suspicious.

However, the takedown notice might not be an attempt to silence people but instead linked to a contract dispute between YouTube and SESAC, the organization that handles performance rights for artists.

A YouTube spokesperson clarified the situation, and as reported by Tribune, said: “We’ve been negotiating in good faith with SESAC to renew our existing agreement. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we couldn’t come to a fair deal before the agreement expired.”

Whether it’s due to a contract issue or not, the reality is that this song has already become the unofficial soundtrack to the scandal and keeps popping up all over social media.
