This week, we were amazed by the news of Nicki Nicole’s breakup with the Mexican music icon in the United States, Peso Pluma. The reason? A highly talked-about video of Doble P in Las Vegas after the Super Bowl celebration, where he is seen with another woman, in this case, the influencer Sahar Sonia, who has also spoken out publicly.

These events prompted Nicki Nicole to address the issue on the same day it went viral with a brief statement on social media: «With much pain, know that I found out the same way you did,» said the artist from Rosario, visibly affected. These terrible news do not overshadow the image and trajectory of a superstar who has changed the course of Argentine hip hop globally. Therefore, we’ll tell you a bit more about who Nicki Nicole is.

Nicki Nicole, the Latin Hip Hop Revolution

Nicki Nicole is a young Argentine star who we have recently seen more in the United States, especially between Miami and Los Angeles, due to her relationship with Peso Pluma. We’ve seen them on numerous occasions at public appearances, including the Billboard Latin Awards, the Latin Grammys, and the Grammys. Additionally, Doble P has always expressed words of love for his partner up until now.

However, we already knew Nicki Nicole before her engagement with the Mexican artist. Since 2019, the artist originally from Rosario gained fame with her first single, «Wapo Traketero,» which had nearly 10 million views shortly after its release. Later, her recognition within and outside of Argentina in Spanish music grew with her participation in BZRP Music Sessions #13 featuring Argentine star producer Bizarrap, when it was still an emerging format. Nicki was the first woman to participate, delivering one of the most successful releases of the series.

With a rapper aesthetic and a flow rooted in old-school hip-hop, Nicki has managed to carve out her own style around trap and pop, bringing a fresh innovation to the Latin urban genre. She belongs to a generation of Argentine superstars that have revolutionized the industry, taking Spanish music to another level, alongside figures like Duki, Cazzu, Khea, María Becerra, or Tini.

Her recent third album, ALMA (2023), nominated for a Latin Grammy, has marked a turning point in her career and international projection. It is a conceptual studio work that reveals her most intimate side, vibrating around bolero, hip hop, and electronic music. The creative result of a healing process post-breakup, linked to her previous partner, the Argentine rapper Trueno.

«I think the fact that I could make this album and heal through it changed me a lot. I started saying all the things that I didn’t know were happening to me, and I began to heal and catharsize in the studio. (Like) I have to release these songs, I have to release this album, I have to find this concept of ‘ALMA,’ because really, music healed me a lot,» she revealed in an interview for CNN.

Currently, Nicki Nicole is one of the most influential women in Hispanic music, especially within the urban genre. Only time will tell how she will contextualize all the recent events, perhaps shaping them into a new creative work.
