The Met Gala, as we know, is one of the most famous fashion events, held every year on the first Monday of May. This year, the theme was ‘Sleeping Beauties: The Awakening of Fashion,’ and we saw several Latino stars dazzle on the red carpet, including Bad Bunny, Rosalía, Rauw Alejandro, Shakira, and Karol G.

However, on May 20th, the AKC Museum of the Dog in New York City hosted the first-ever ‘Pet Gala,’ where dogs of various breeds wore haute couture dresses. All the canine outfits were designed by Anthony Rubio, making sure each one was a beautiful recreation inspired by the looks from the 2024 Met Gala.

How Did the Pet Gala Start?

According to People, the Pet Gala began in 2013 as a photo project by Anthony Rubio. He’s a designer who specializes in pet couture and women’s fashion. For several years, Rubio recreated Met Gala looks for dogs and shared them through annual photo sessions. However, for 2024, he teamed up with the AKC Museum of the Dog to create this glamorous and adorable event.

Just like the ‘Human’ Gala, tickets to this furry event cost $300. With the proceeds going to the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. After the dogs posed for photos on the red carpet, the pets and their owners enjoyed a runway show and a seated dinner.

It’s worth mentioning that Rubio told the Associated Press that his intention is not to make fun of or mimic the Met Gala. “We’re elevating and appraising and appreciating the wonderful designs that were presented at the Met Gala by the most talented designers of the world.” The event showcased some of the most talked-about looks from the Met Gala. Including those worn by Zendaya, Cardi B, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny.
