Together, they’ve worked on some significant hits for Bieber, including “Eenie Meenie,” “Somebody to Love,” “Love Yourself,” “Cold Water,” and the deeply personal “Lonely,” released in 2020. If you remember, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were one of the most talked-about couples in contemporary pop. They had an on-again, off-again relationship from 2010 to 2017, when Bieber solidified his relationship with model Hailey Baldwin (now Hailey Bieber).
It’s well known that Bieber and Gomez didn’t end things on the best of terms. Their relationship was marked by challenges, including Bieber’s struggles with substance abuse and the behaviors that arose from them, such as violent and self-destructive tendencies.
In 2020, Bieber faced an allegation from a woman using the pseudonym “Danielle,” who claimed he had sexually assaulted her at a hotel in 2014 while he was dating Gomez. Bieber denied the accusation.
“I know I have been naive and haven’t been empathetic toward women in the past. And have overlooked their struggles,” Bieber wrote in a March 8, 2021, Instagram post. “I am learning every day beside my wife as I see all of the struggles she faces that I will never have to face. I am committed to being better and more aware of the struggles women face that men never will!!”

These issues made Bieber and Gomez’s relationship unhealthy. They also had some public controversies, such as their infamous Instagram feud in 2016 while Bieber was dating Sofia Richie.
“If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol—it should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.” Gomez commented.
The two accused each other of cheating in a heated exchange before Gomez apologized on Snapchat, and Bieber subsequently deleted his entire Instagram account.
Since 2018, after being together for a few months, the couple split up and have not been seen together again.
No Reconciliation in Sight
While Selena Gomez and Hailey Baldwin seemed to mend fences in 2022 after years of speculation about an alleged overlap between Gomez and Baldwin during Bieber’s transition to the model, a reconciliation between Bieber and Gomez doesn’t appear likely.
Reportedly, Bieber was shocked when Benny Blanco distanced himself after beginning his romance with Gomez in 2023.
“Justin is pretty offended by the fact that Benny totally cut him out of his life when he got together with Selena,” a source told In Touch Weekly. “They used to be great friends, so it came as a huge shock, especially since Justin would love nothing more than to put all the bad blood with Selena behind him.”
Bieber has allegedly tried to reach out to the couple to ease tensions and normalize their relationship but received no response. Instead, he’s reportedly upset by the passive-aggressive posts from Gomez and Blanco on social media, which he considers “immature,” according to the aforementioned media outlet.
An In Touch source added, “Justin finds it so annoying that they always seem to be taking these passive-aggressive shots at him on social media.”
Unless a miracle happens, it seems unlikely that Bieber will be on the guest list for what is sure to be the most anticipated wedding of 2025.
