While some will continue to spread their hatred with outlandish theories and make as much noise as possible, the Paris 2024 Olympics concluded their edition with a spectacular new ceremony. The end of this magnificent sporting event featured a major role for the athletes but a cinematic finale delivered by Tom Cruise and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The actor, who has been portraying Ethan Hunt, the main character of the Mission: Impossible saga for nearly three decades, appeared at the Paris Olympic Stadium—this time indeed the venue for the ceremony. He launched himself from the roof, retrieved the Olympic flag on a high-powered motorcycle, and then flew it to Los Angeles in a parachute jump, making sure the Hollywood sign would shine with the five Olympic rings that will be displayed at LA 2028.

If the 62-year-old actor’s (yes, 62 years old) breathtaking stunts weren’t spectacular enough, the French audience, captivated by the show and the promise of cinematic games, was then treated to the spectacular outdoor performance by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Under the intense sun of Venice Beach and before thousands of spectators, the Californian band started setting the soundtrack for a Games that will return to the U.S. just 44 years after being held there in 1984 (and 96 years after 1932).

‘Can’t Stop’ got everyone jumping and enjoying, soon followed by Billie Eilish performing ‘Birds of a Feather.’ Both artists made it clear that musical performances will be no problem for the future ceremonies of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. After all, they have show business in their blood.

Finally, Snoop Dogg closed the show with ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and ‘The Next Episode’ alongside Dr. Dre. Together, they hinted at the retro-modern aesthetic that will define the look of the upcoming games.

With Paris 2024 wrapped up, many will already be looking forward to the next games, and there’s no need to wait long for the Paralympics, which will take place from August 28 to September 8 this year. However, after these second games conclude, there will be another four-year wait until the next Summer Olympics.

Los Angeles is already deep into preparations to welcome thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, and tourists from around the world. University dormitories will be used to house athletes and media, contributing to the logistics and comfort of the participants.
