Karol G and J Balvin have more in common than we could imagine. Both were born in Colombia, Medellín, first becoming icons in the national scene and later global figures in reggaeton, undoubtedly contributing to bringing Hispanic music to new heights, even in countries like the United States.

What we didn’t know is that they share a great friendship. It was precisely in their hometown where they first met and sang together. The creator of «Mi Gente» was already making a name for himself in the music scene in the early 2010s. He was beginning to attract a certain fan phenomenon, so Karol G’s uncle wanted to hire the rising star to sing at a family event.

In this way, Balvin performed at the 15th birthday party of one of the singer’s cousins, intending to add rhythm to the evening. Karol G didn’t hesitate for a second and took the opportunity to sing a song with him, as she confessed to media outlets like Univisión, also sharing a photo of the moment that happened more than a decade ago.

At that time, the Colombian singer was already making her way into the music scene and had participated in the version of Factor X in her country. Today, both continue to show affection to each other.

Years later, in 2018 to be exact, the two singers collaborated on a remix of Karol G’s most famous song, «Mi Cama.» For this, they also had the participation of Nicky Jam, another close friend of the reggaeton artist, with whom she had already released «Ricos Besos» and «Mañana» in 2014. Balvin and Karol G even performed at Coachella together back in 2022.

Everything stays among friends, and the world of Latin music seems to be a small place! We love that there’s such a good vibe among so many artists and that they are open to giving us so many collaborations to fill our playlists with rhythm.
