The U.S. election campaign is in full swing. In recent times, we’ve seen artists like The White Stripes denouncing Trump for using their music in his campaign, while singers like Anuel AA and Justin Quiles have shown him support. Now, a significant step has been taken. The main candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, faced off in a tense debate, the only one both accepted, which had Americans glued to their screens. And not just Americans—the world, too, was watching.
Many were waiting for Taylor Swift to announce her stance on these presidential elections, and after this debate, she finally showed her support for one of the two candidates. As many expected, her choice was clear.
«Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,» she began in a social media post, making her stance very clear.
In the U.S., it’s common for celebrities to voice their political views, and this isn’t the first time Swift has done so: «Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,» she expressed about misinformation and the fake content circulating during such processes.
Not leaving any room for doubt, she made her position clear, sharing her support in this political fight: «I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.»
Considering that many of her followers think she should be the president of the country herself, her endorsement of Kamala Harris is very influential, and her defense and support will certainly have an impact.
“I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” she added, commenting on Harris’s team.
Her choice is well-reasoned. «I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,» she concluded, reminding people that to vote, they must be registered, and advising them to do so early.
She signed off as «Childless Cat Lady,» Taylor Swift, «with love and hope» and posted a picture of herself with one of her beloved cats.
On November 5th, Election Day, we’ll find out if the U.S. will have its first female president, Kamala Harris—Swift’s choice for the best option. So far, polls show a close race, with the Democratic candidate slightly ahead, but anything could happen. The singer’s endorsement is sure to tip the scales a little
