Sydney Sweeney, best known for her role in Euphoria, became the target of online criticism on December 13 after photos of her in a bikini went viral. Social media was soon flooded with body shaming comments, with people saying she was “too pale” or “needed to get back to the gym.” However, Sweeney didn’t let the negativity go unanswered and responded firmly through her social media platforms.
On December 14, Sweeney posted a video on Instagram highlighting some of the harsh comments she received. “Too pale and needs to lose a few pounds,” one user wrote. Another added, “Whoever this person is, they have a horrible body.”

In response, the 27-year-old actress captioned her post with “Christy Martin Strong,” referencing her upcoming role in a biopic about former professional boxer Christy Martin, a woman who faced challenges both in and out of the ring.
Sweeney explained that she has been training intensively to accurately portray Martin, which has led to noticeable changes in her appearance. “Over the past few months, i’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,” she shared in a previous Instagram post. “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all.”
It was a powerful message of empowerment for her followers. “You’re a badass,” wrote actor Glen Powell in support. Other celebrities like Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, and Lili Reinhart also showed solidarity. “Incredible and your dedication to your project is very inspiring,” Reinhart shared. “You look amazing, and your dedication to your work is truly inspiring.”
The incident once again shed light on the persistent issue of body shaming on social media, where public figures are often subjected to harsh scrutiny about their appearance. Despite the negativity, Sweeney made it clear she wouldn’t let it affect her.
Her fans didn’t hold back their support either. Many praised her courage and her ability to handle criticism with grace and strength. “You’re such an inspiration,” one fan commented on her Instagram post. “Thank you for showing that real beauty comes from inner strength and self-confidence.”
