Just a couple of weeks ago, Katy Perry welcomed her new musical era with ‘Woman’s World,’ the song marking the start of a highly anticipated phase. But she’s already set another date on the calendar: August 9th. This is the chosen day for the release of ‘Lifetimes,’ the second single from 143, her upcoming studio album.

This album, which she is about to present, will undoubtedly be another turning point in her career. After Smile, her most recent studio work from 2020, Katy Perry’s fans are eager for a new batch of songs that sound as young, fresh, and carefree as her previous projects.

143, The Calm After the Storm

Katy Perry’s fans have experienced a real rollercoaster of highs and lows over the past decade, but it seems like things are finally settling down. ‘Woman’s World’ was the song that introduced the new Katy, although it reminded us a lot of her earlier albums. This track has been one of her best and most anticipated releases in years, though it seems it hasn’t been received as expected. Perhaps that’s why the artist has decided to quickly move on and address the situation.

Being attentive to both criticism and praise, the singer is trying her luck again with ‘Lifetimes,’ the second preview from 143. Some Katy Perry fans already had a chance to listen to it at a well-known nightclub in Barcelona when the ‘California Gurls’ singer made an appearance to tease what’s coming.

‘Lifetimes’ is the song from which we’ve already heard a few snippets, thanks to Katy herself, and it seems to have garnered more attention than ‘Woman’s World.’ That might be why Katy Perry hasn’t waited even a month after the previous single’s release to offer it to us as a gift.

Both her fans and she herself have been generating anticipation on social media, and everything suggests that this will be one of the standout pop songs of the year. Staying true to the genre’s roots, according to what we know, it will also have house music elements that will be reflected not just in the melody but also in the visual aesthetics.

‘Lifetimes’ is Inspired by Daisy, Katy Perry’s Daughter

The single’s cover art is very futuristic, much like the rest of the promotional photos Katy has shared. On the cover, we see a hand holding a heart, indicating that despite its upbeat and danceable sound, the song has a deeper meaning beyond the happiness it conveys.

The singer explained to The Sun that ‘Lifetimes’ is inspired by her daughter Daisy: «It’s funny how sometimes you look for your soulmate in a partner. It could be a dog, your mother, your best friend, your cat… but for me, it happened when Daisy was born. I wrote ‘Lifetimes’ about her. Every night, before we go to sleep, I tell her, ‘I love you,’ and then I ask, ‘Will you find me in every lifetime?’ and she says, ‘Yes.'»
