Shakira‘s ex, Gerard Piqué, and his girlfriend, Clara Chía, are back in the spotlight. This time, though, it has nothing to do with the Colombian singer. Clara has sued journalist Jordi Martín for harassment.
The courts have taken action, with the judge from the 14th Criminal Court of Barcelona sentencing the ‘El Gordo y la Flaca’ contributor to one year in prison and a 10,000-euro fine for harassment and injury against Chía. Moreover, Martín must stay at least 1,000 meters away from Clara and her home for a year and a half. During this time, he is also banned from any form of contact or communication with her.
The fine imposed on the photographer is meant to compensate Clara Chía for emotional distress. In addition, 3,000 euros will be added to cover the medical expenses and treatments she had to undergo because of the harassment. The exact amount of these expenses will be determined by a forensic report, according to several media outlets in Barcelona.
An Historic Sentence
What happened with Jordi is historic because, according to local media, a photographer or paparazzo has never been convicted of harassment in Spain before, reports La Vanguardia. The complaint was filed in June 2023 by Clara Chía and Piqué, accusing the photographer of following her to get images for national and international distribution.
Part of Martín’s conviction is due to evidence that he invaded Clara Chía’s private spaces. Including the parking lot of Kosmos, the company founded by Piqué where she works. And engaged in high-speed car chases that put her safety at risk.
