Feid & Karol G Outsmart TikTok: Their Music’s New Sound After Universal Music’s Move

Last week, there was quite a stir in the music industry when Universal Music Group decided to pull songs by major artists like Rosalía, Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande from TikTok. This move came after negotiations for a new contract fell through. As a result, TikTok had to silence any clips featuring music from these artists due to copyright issues. 

In response, TikTok users didn’t just sit back and accept it. They got creative. Some made jokes and created trends using music that’s free from copyright restrictions, while others simply muted their videos altogether. But some users found a loophole. They started using the banned songs but with different music playing in the background. This workaround caught the attention of artists like Feid, Karol G, Joaquina, and Lola Índigo, who didn’t mind the remixes. 

For example, Ferxxo shared a couple of videos featuring his song «Ferxxo 100,» but with a cumbia twist. He jokingly captioned it as ‘Outsmarting Mr. TikTok’ as he danced and sang along to the modified version. His followers were impressed, commenting on things like “He’s a problem solver” and “We knew he wouldn’t stay quiet.”

On another note, he posted another clip of «Bubalu,» but this time with a salsa vibe instead of afrobeat. The Colombian jokingly said, ‘They can’t kick us off TikTok.’ And it seems that both videos have inspired other singers, as shown by Joaquina.

More Artists Joining the Trend

The standout Best New Artist from the recent Latin Grammys, Joaquina, has been greatly inspired by Feid. Instead of searching for his music on TikTok, she decided to release a trap version of «Rabia,» one of her earliest singles. «I’ll just make trap versions of my songs so they won’t remove them,» she joked in the video.

On the flip side, the most imaginative Swift fans have tapped into their performing side, using TikTok’s autotune filter to cleverly recreate the introduction of «Midnight Rain,» a song from Taylor Swift’s Midnights album. 

Meanwhile, Karol G took advantage of a slowed-down version of «MIENTRAS ME CURO DEL CORA» to launch the next leg of her tour across Latin America and Europe. Her caption reads, ‘Bring all your energy, your sorrows, your love, your joy!!!
