TikTok has quickly become one of the most successful social media platforms in recent years, attracting new users every day. Its viral trends, ‘storytimes,’ and the growing number of stars joining the app have been key to its rapid rise.
Music has always been a big part of the platform since the beginning. Although the company ran into copyright issues with major record labels a few months ago, music has returned to the app. However, TikTok is facing another setback as ByteDance recently announced that it will be shutting down its music streaming service, TikTok Music.
The app was originally designed to compete with YouTube and Spotify in the music streaming world, but it didn’t quite take off as expected. As a result, Zhang Yiming’s company has decided to close it down for good, although no further details have been shared.
Starting November 28, the TikTok Music app will no longer be accessible. The company has advised users to transfer their playlists before that date and request a refund if necessary, as all account information, including personal data, will be automatically deleted once the app is shut down.
It’s important to note that TikTok Music hadn’t expanded worldwide. The platform was only available in countries like Indonesia, Brazil, Singapore, and Australia.
