Elton John opened up last September about an eye infection that left him blind in one eye. The condition has kept him at home, focusing on his recovery for several months. “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July, because I had an infection in the south of France, and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see,” he shared at the time.
Recently, Elton shared an update, revealing that his vision hasn’t improved. During the presentation of the musical The Devil Wears Prada, for which he wrote and composed the soundtrack, he admitted that his eyesight issues prevented him from fully experiencing the show.
“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews. Because as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight. So it’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and boy, it sounded good tonight,” he said. The ‘Rocket Man’ and ‘Cold Heart’ star also expressed sadness about missing important milestones in his family’s future: “I want to see our children get married, but I don’t think I’m going to be around for that.”
At 77, Elton’s honest words highlight his concern about his ongoing battle with blindness, which began during the summer. Although his condition hasn’t improved, he remains deeply grateful to those supporting him. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” he said back in September.
The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical
Elton John recently attended the West End premiere of The Devil Wears Prada musical. Based on the beloved 2006 film starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, the production features an original score composed by the legendary Elton John. The musical is also adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s acclaimed 2003 novel.
Starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly, the musical has received excellent reviews from London’s theater critics.
