Once again, the Critics Choice Awards honored the most acclaimed audiovisual productions by professional critics, as well as other significant achievements in the film and television industry during the past year.
While the emotional highlight of the edition was provided by Harrison Ford winning the statuette for an outstanding film career and sharing a heartfelt kiss with Calista Flockhart, the comedic element was brought by Ryan Gosling.
It all happened when they announced the winner of the Best Song award, a category where the favorite was ‘What Was I Made For’ by Billie Eilish, and everyone believed she would win (even Gosling). However, they announced «I’m Just Ken.»
At that very moment, the camera focused on the actor, who couldn’t believe what he had just heard, and his expression became an instant meme.
Gosling didn’t know how to react. He didn’t go up on stage to accept the award, but the creators of the song, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, did and didn’t forget to mention him in their speech:
«Ryan Gosling, this award is as much yours as ours. You made the world, and the audience, fall in love with this song with your unparalleled performance, so thank you,» they assured, and the actor continued in his amazement.
We don’t know if it was a funny or awkward moment, neither for Gosling nor for Eilish. All we know is that this is the awarded song. Judge for yourselves.
