Christian Nodal Talks to LOS40 About How Criticism Affects Him: ‘I Did a Lot of Therapy’

The Mexican artist is constantly in the spotlight

Christian Nodal is probably the most talked-about Latin artist in recent weeks. Following his sudden breakup with Argentine artist Cazzu, he surprised everyone by announcing his relationship with Mexican singer Ángela Aguilar, with whom he had maintained a long friendship since they met while recording ‘Dime Como Quieres.’

With this new relationship, controversy began from the start with rumors of infidelity (denied by Nodal himself) and speculation about a possible engagement, which was confirmed last week when Christian and Ángela shared photos of their wedding in Morelos, Mexico, on social media. This union has continued to astonish their millions of fans (and even Ángela’s father, Pepe Aguilar).

Despite the whirlwind surrounding Nodal, the artist recently completed his tour in Europe. During this time, the singer of ‘La Mitad’ spoke with LOS40 Urban about various topics, including his recent tour and potential collaborations, but also about how social media criticism affects him. According to Nodal, over time, he has learned to put social media hate into perspective.

“It affected me a lot until about two years ago. I did a lot of therapy to understand that social media is social media, and real life is real life. It’s difficult because, to be honest, I care about it 100%, and at the same time, I don’t care. You see something with a comment, and it can lift your spirits or whatever, because we’re still human. But the truth is, I think everything has found a good balance for me,” Nodal tells LOS40 Urban.

In fact, Nodal admits that he doesn’t use social media frequently and is actually considering doing so more.

“I just need to support myself more… I see other artists doing it, but I don’t know how to use TikTok, I don’t know how to do a trend… I need to learn; I’m sure someone will teach me,” he says with a laugh. “I feel that, for me, social media has become more of a tool where I can share things with my fans. But the reality is that, no matter how many followers I have, they aren’t the ones who are with me constantly. For me, those are the ones I see at a show, singing and cheering. That’s the beautiful part of this career. In the past, artists didn’t have social media; they didn’t know how many people followed them or not; they just did shows, and I identify a lot with that ideology. I think we have a responsibility as artists, but really, saying, ‘Oh, I have so many followers…’ or something like that, I don’t think it’s difficult. I love what I do, and I love that people love what I do; that’s as far as I go,” he concludes.

Nodal About to Release New Album

After his wedding, Nodal plans to take his next big step in his career this August with his upcoming studio work.

I tentatively plan to release the album in August. We’re looking at the timing because I really don’t want to lose any tracks, and I’m a bit difficult when it comes to organizing dates and all that, since I’m on tour. And now more than ever, they ask to have everything ready months in advance, and I normally go with what I’m feeling and which single I like best, and I ask people… The idea is that in August, my album will likely be complete, or at least the EP, which I think is more likely to be an EP: the first part of Pal’ Cora. But we’re still touring, and duets are coming up; I can’t reveal with whom. I know we’re almost halfway through the year, but for me, we’re almost just starting the year, musically speaking,” he says.

This new studio work is expected to include many surprises (who knows, maybe a new song with Ángela Aguilar?). What is certain is that it won’t include a new song with Peso Pluma. Nodal revealed to LOS40 that although the ‘Doble P’ is one of the major references in Mexican music right now, they don’t plan another collaboration after ‘La Intención.’

“I love my buddy very much; he’s a great human being. But we haven’t talked about doing another collaboration. If we ever do one, I’ll be very happy. I loved working with him; we haven’t had the chance to sing it together at a show, and I’m dying for that to happen, let’s see what life says,” he says.

The truth is, Christian Nodal still has a few surprises up his sleeve for 2024, and we can’t wait to see them
