Chilean Audience Reacts Angrily to Ángela Aguilar: What Did She Say?

Ángela Aguilar has been making headlines non-stop, mostly because of her current relationship with Christian Nodal. It’s worth remembering that Nodal was previously in a relationship with an Argentine partner, with whom he shares a daughter, before their sudden breakup. The backlash against Ángela has been so intense that her father, Pepe Aguilar, has reportedly considered stepping away from performing in Mexico, especially after she was booed at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

This time, however, the controversy isn’t about her personal life but a comment that has upset many in Chile. Ángela credited a famous phrase to her grandmother, Flor Silvestre, but Chileans argue the words actually belong to their national icon, Violeta Parra.

This incident happened during the ‘Woman of the Year’ awards ceremony, where Ángela said in her speech: “As my grandmother, Flor Silvestre, would say, ‘Gracias a la vida que me ha dado tanto (Thanks to life, which has given me so much).’” What she likely meant as a heartfelt tribute sparked a wave of criticism instead.

The issue is that the phrase comes from Violeta Parra’s iconic Chilean folk song, written in 1966. The misattribution quickly set social media on fire, with people voicing all kinds of opinions.

Social Media Doesn’t Hold Back

On platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), users were quick to call out Ángela Aguilar’s slip. Some of the comments were particularly sharp: “Someone get Ángela a history book!” “Silence this woman; she’s always caught up in some controversy,” and “First she says she’s 25% Argentine, now she’s claiming Violeta Parra’s words. What’s next?”

Others connected this controversy to older rumors, bringing up her alleged relationship with Christian Nodal, who was previously with Cazzu.

Amid All the Backlash

An old video resurfaced where Ángela appears to talk about taking legal action against those who attack her online. In the clip, she mentions having a lawyer in her family who could defend her against any disrespect. “I’m tired of this! I have a responsibility to my platform, and I’ll act with the full weight of the law,” she said.

It’s worth noting, though, that this video isn’t new and has nothing to do with the current controversy over the phrase that upset many Chileans. The video is from January 2023, when Ángela announced she would take legal action under the Olimpia Law against those who manipulated her images to create a fake explicit video. It’s unrelated to her recent comments.
