Camila Cabello Responds: Why Does Drake Have a Solo Song on Her Own Album?

The release of C, XOXO, Camila Cabello’s new album, is generating a lot of interest. The new era of the pop star has officially begun and, amid the buzz, analysis, and listens, there is one question circulating among fans and some journalists: why does Drake have a solo song on this album?

The popular artist is a very significant part of C, XOXO. Not only does he have a collaboration – HOT UPTOWN is already one of the album’s most popular tracks – but there is also a second song where Camila Cabello steps back and lets Drake take the spotlight in ‘Uuugly.’

Drake’s Addition to ‘C, XOXO’

In a recent interview on Apple Music 1, Camila Cabello talked about the lessons she learned from Taylor Swift, the series Girls, and much more. She also shared how and why Drake ended up being a part of C, XOXO.

“I don’t think there’s any other artist’s album with a solo Drake song,” the host and presenter Zane Lowe asked, to which Camila Cabello replied: “I feel like we are musically aligned in many ways. I think we have the same taste. In fact, I DMed him saying things like ‘I’ve been listening to you a lot while making this album.’”

Camila Cabello then admitted that she didn’t know Drake beyond meeting him “at a party during the Havana days.” Later, he followed her on social media, and that’s when she sent him the idea for HOT UPTOWN. “I DMed him and shared my album, and he was blown away. I sent him the song idea, and we cut it to make it seem like a duet. Then, when he went back to work on his part, he gave me an outro that ended up becoming ‘Uuugly’.”

Camila added: “It was a two-for-one because I didn’t really need an outro. I didn’t want to listen to a song like HOT UPTOWN and then transition to a one-minute piece where he’s talking about his stuff, so we decided to just make another song out of it.”

Regarding Criticism

Camila Cabello’s outlook is very different now with the release of C, XOXO compared to when she released her debut album, Camila, in 2018. Her perspective on things, music, and the way she handles criticism from social media or the press have all changed.

“I think I’m getting better at not taking criticism personally. I used to take it too much to heart, and now I ask myself, who is telling me this? If it’s not someone who knows me personally and whom I know, then I don’t need to take it so seriously,” said Camila Cabello. “I’m never going to reach a point where I don’t care what others think, because that’s sociopathic behavior. If I feel like I’m hurting someone’s feelings or offending people, of course, it hurts and I care about that.”
