Camila Cabello Breaks Silence on Her ‘X Factor’ Secret 11 Years Later

The TV show was the starting point for all the amazing things that happened to the singer afterward

It’s been a while since Camila Cabello talked about X Factor. Not for any specific reason—she just prefers to focus on the present and where her artistic journey is now. But the singer is in a different place personally and professionally compared to her early solo days, and she’s open to looking back at some of the key moments in her life, starting with her time on the talent show that launched her to fame as part of a girl group.

In an interview with La Heladera de Quinientos55, Camila reflected on her X Factor audition, which, by the way, was never aired. “It didn’t make it to air, but I’m going to share something I’ve never told anyone: I have the audition. I don’t know if it will ever come out, but I watched it for the first time, eleven years after I did it. I was so nervous… but I sang ‘Respect’ by Aretha Franklin. Mine was the only one that didn’t get aired, but now I’ve seen it.”

Camila Cabello’s Journey on ‘X Factor’

There’s no doubt that X Factor was the starting point for all the amazing things that happened to Camila Cabello afterward. But it wasn’t an easy ride. In fact, she went to the audition without even knowing if she’d get the chance to perform. “It wasn’t a confirmed audition.

“The producers told me that if there was time at the end, they might let me audition,” she explained. “I remember going backstage and begging Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato to let me sing. The producers saw how much I wanted it, and they made room for me.” The rest is pop culture history.

Rosalía, a Major Inspiration

Another topic discussed on La Heladera was C, XOXO, Camila Cabello’s third studio album, with ‘I Luv It’ and ‘He Knows’ as standout tracks. Rosalía’s influence on this project is obvious, especially since El Guincho played a major role and CANADA produced the video for the first single. Camila was asked a straightforward question: was there an intention to capture Rosalía’s essence in C, XOXO?

This is how the artist responded: “I really love Rosalía; I think she’s an incredible artist. Her El Mal Querer era was hugely inspiring for a lot of musicians. What I love about music is when someone creates something different, something we haven’t heard before (…) That kind of music inspired me, and it’s what I tried to do with Havana, by mixing salsa with pop. As artists, we share similar values.”
