The emergence of new technologies, social media platforms, and the rise of influencers has revolutionized the entertainment industry, often pushing the boundaries of what’s considered normal. This was evident in a recent incident at the 2024 Bafta Awards, although the full extent of the situation wasn’t realized until hours later.
Organizers of the British film industry awards are now investigating a security breach that compromised the safety of Oppenheimer members. During the crucial moment of the Best Picture award presentation, an individual managed to sneak onto the stage alongside producers, directors, and cast members.
The ‘intruder’ later took to social media to share his experience of being near notable figures like Cillian Murphy while the film’s representatives delivered their acceptance speech. Surprisingly, his presence went unnoticed, and none of the cast members found it odd, as he remained inconspicuous in the background.
An intruder invaded Oppenheimer’s acceptance speech at the @BAFTA awards. YouTuber “prankster” Lizwani joined the cast and stood behind them in silence. He was apprehended by security when he left the stage. Bafta has said it is taking the stage invasion “very seriously”.… pic.twitter.com/KIBCEN9aYc

Once news broke about his presence on stage, everyone became alarmed. Because if this influencer, known in the UK for his prank videos, could easily sneak onto such an important part of the night without any trouble, what if it had been someone with harmful intentions towards the actors or directors? The ‘prankster’ was stopped and escorted out when he stepped off the stage.
The investigation is ongoing, and it’s hard to believe that it happened at the ceremony of one of the most prestigious film awards. A memorable night for Oppenheimer, which won 7 awards, surpassing the 5 technical awards for Poor Creatures and the 3 for The Zone of Interest. Especially striking and painful for the Spanish audience was the lack of success for The Snow Society in the Best Foreign Language Film category. And on an international level, the BAFTAs turned their back on Barbie, which received 0 awards out of its 5 nominations.
