Attempted Break-In at Taylor Swift’s Residence Leads to Stalker’s Arrest

The police discovered an active arrest warrant against him

The year 2024 started with the arrest of several celebrity stalkers. Shakira, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and now Taylor Swift has had her share. This incident unfolded last Saturday when the New York City police received a distress call that led to the apprehension of a man who was allegedly trying to break into the Taylor’s home in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City, according to Page Six. 

A spokesperson from the New York City Police Department relayed the news. Officers were alerted to a disturbance in the area near the singer’s home on Franklin Street. 

“Upon arrival, police were informed that the individual attempted to open a door to a building at the location,” stated the officer. He also confirmed that the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was making an unlawful attempt to enter the residence of the «Love Story» singer. 

The Witnesses

Witnesses have also provided their accounts of the incident to the media. “I first saw him around 1 p.m. — he went up to Taylor’s door,” one of them reported. “I’m not sure if he knocked or rang the doorbell,” the witness continued. The witness further revealed that this man had been seen loitering in the area “for a few weeks.”

However, another witness claimed to have seen him “lurking here for a month.” This witness also added that he had been “sleeping on the stoop, chain-smoking constantly, shouting, and generally making everyone uncomfortable.”

“When he arrived before Christmas, my husband asked what he was doing here and he said, ‘I want to see Taylor.’” In fact, “He even had flowers at one point,” clarified the same individual, noting that they had called the police a few times, but law enforcement only took action when the alleged stalker attempted to enter the residence. “I asked him to leave this morning and he just stared at me, catatonic,” they concluded. 

Police units arrived around 1:45 PM, and the officers engaged with the alleged stalker ‘for just a few minutes’ before placing him in handcuffs. “It was all pretty civil. He didn’t resist. There was no yelling or anything.” recounted one of the neighbors. The alleged stalker was arrested when, during the identification process, the police discovered an active arrest warrant against him unrelated to this incident. He remains in custody. 

Previous Incidents

Taylor Swift is no stranger to dealing with stalkers. The Shake It Off singer had a similar experience a few years ago. In early 2018, the artist began receiving emails through the Big Machine Label Group, the record label she was working with, with the intention of getting to know her, as federal prosecutors in Nashville, Tennessee, stated in an official statement. 

The 27-year-old individual’s intentions evolved over time and with an increasing number of letters, becoming progressively more menacing and violent towards Taylor. Additionally, on some occasions, the individual personally visited the offices to deliver messages to the singer and even wandered the hallways. The stalker composed a total of 40 letters before being charged in September 2018. However, it wasn’t until October 2019 that he pleaded guilty to his actions.
