Singer Adele recently shared that she’s been dealing with a severe ear infection caused by a ‘rare and terrible’ waterborne bacteria, which has left her partially deaf in one ear over the past two months.
Speaking to fans during her show at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, part of the final stretch of her Weekends with Adele residency, she said, “It is the most painful thing that has ever, ever happened to me in my life — it was worse than childbirth.” The singer shared that it was cause by a rare waterborne bacteria and really hard to treat. The crowd, which included fellow artist Céline Dion, was clearly moved.
Adele explained that she contracted the bacteria in Munich in August and spent days on the wrong antibiotics before finding the right treatment. “They managed to give me one that started to work. I’m no longer in pain, which is great, [but] I’m a bit deaf in my left ear,” she shared. The singer admitted that there were times she felt like she “wanted to chop her ear off” before finally finding the medication that brought her relief.

Adele is down to the last few concerts of her tour, after which she plans to take a well-deserved break from performing. The show starts off with a simple setup and gradually builds to include a waterfall and fireworks, all set to wrap up on November 24.
“I’m not the most comfortable performer,” she admitted during her Munich concert on August 31. “I know that, but I am very good at it. And I’ve really enjoyed performing for nearly three now, which is the longest I’ve ever done and probably the longest I will ever do,” she said in an emotional farewell.
“It has been amazing. I just need a rest. I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself. And I want to live it now,” she shared with fans, making for a truly heartfelt night.
