The latest edition of one of the most anticipated music awards is almost here: the MTV Video Music Awards, or VMAs. This year’s top nominees include Post Malone, Eminem, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift, who leads with the most nominations. Swift is especially in the spotlight as she’s on the verge of breaking several records in the history of the VMAs.
According to VegasInsider.com, the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer could become the first artist to win the Video of the Year award five times, and the first to win it three years in a row. But those are just a few of the records she could break. Here’s a list of all the records she and other top nominees might set:
Taylor has a shot at another big achievement: winning the most awards in the Collaboration of the Year category. Right now, Beyoncé holds the record with three wins, but Taylor could surpass her.
In the same category, if GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion take the prize, they’d be the first female rappers to win it. If Jungkook wins, he’d be the first South Korean artist to do so.
When it comes to Pop Song, Taylor could outdo Britney Spears and become the artist with the most awards in this category, reaching a total of three.
If Drake wins Hip-Hop Song, he’d become the male artist with the most awards in this category, with four wins.
Alicia Keys is in the spotlight. If she wins, she’d hold the record for the most awards in this category, with three in total. The same goes for SZA. If Tyla wins, she’d be the first South African artist to achieve this.
K-pop fans have their eyes on Jungkook, who could become the artist with the most wins in the K-pop Song category, with four victories. If NewJeans wins, they’d be the first K-pop girl group to do so.
Anitta could set a new record by winning the most awards for Latin Song, surpassing J Balvin, with three trophies in total.
The Best Direction category also highlights Taylor Swift. If she wins this year, it would be her fourth time, making her the artist with the most awards in this category. She would also become the woman with the most wins in this category.
So, are you going to watch the VMAs to see if any of these records are broken?
