The singer became during the last few years at the center of the debate after his alleged brawl with the mother of his ex-partner, Gigi Hadid, Yolanda Hadid. Malik allegedly got physical with Yolanda during an incident on September 29, 2021, but the details of the fight remained under wraps until October 28, 2021, when TMZ published a report that claimed he “struck” the reality star. Malik defended himself through a Twitter statement.
The truth is that, during the interview, the former One Direction member has not spoken on this topic, but he has openly talk about his experience in the band and his solo career.
Sitting down for an interview was not Zayn’s forte and in fact, he begins the chapter by saying he does it for his little Khai, the daughter he has in common with model Gigi Hadid.
“I took the time I have to not even necessarily do interviews and do too much press exposure because I feel like we were so overexposed in the band that it takes a bit of time for you naturally to progress as a human and give something else that is interesting that you have to say,” he confessed at the beginning of the interview.
Once the conversation started, Zayn seemed to loosen up and feel comfortable enough to talk about his personal process in One Direction.
“We’d been together everyday for five years and we got sick of each other if I’m being completely honest […] I look back on it now in a much fonder light than I would have as I just left,” he stated. » «Now I look back at it like it was a rush, you know? It was fun and it was something that was amazing, so of course I wasn’t going to understand it. It’s not something I expected in my life, but it was definitely fun for sure.»
The artist has even hinted at some internal problems that could have contributed to the band’s demise: “Certain people were doing certain things. Certain people didn’t want to sign contracts. So I knew something was happening [and] I just got ahead of the curve.”
Precisely, he has also revealed that one of the reasons he left the band was because he wanted to be the first to go solo.
“I completely, selfishly wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record, if I’m being completely honest with you. I was like, ‘I’m gonna jump the gun here for the first time.’ I’m a passive dude, but when it comes to my music and my business, I’m serious about it and I’m competitive. So I wanted to be the first to go and do my own thing.”
«I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this in this kind of environment, and I want her to be able to look at me and be like, ‘Yo, my dad’s doing this. He’s the man,'» he declares.
The artist gets emotional when he talks about his little girl and aspires to be an example for her.
«Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her.» Moreover, he even confessed that his «bad-boy» edge has softened since his daughter came into his life. «I keep being told I’m telling dad jokes,» admitted while laughing.
Zayn has recently signed with a new record label (Mercury Records) and is very close to releasing his fourth studio album. But first he’s releasing «Love Like This,» a song that, according to the artist, will be ideal for this summer.
