Joaquina, at just 19 years old, has made a big splash at the 2023 Latin Grammys, accomplishing nominations in two categories – Best New Artist (which she won) and Best Singer-Songwriter Album for «Los Mejores Años.» But who is this rising star from Venezuela who’s catching the attention of international musicians?

Joaquina was born in 2004 in Caracas, Venezuela, and happens to be the daughter of the famous presenter Camila Canabal. Joaquina’s love for music ignited at the young age of four when she began taking music classes. By age seven, she was already playing the piano and the violin. Her bedroom piano became her closest companion, where she composed her first musical creations before sharing them with the world.

A Rising Star

In 2020, at just 16, she released her debut track, «Primer Amor.» She continued to release more original songs, eventually culminating in her debut EP, Los Mejores Años, which dropped in 2022. In her own words, “I write music for anyone who wants to listen and enjoy it with me. My dream is for my music to touch people’s emotions, transport them to different places, help them express their feelings, or make them feel understood and relieved. I want to be a source of expression and love for those who listen,” she passionately shared in an interview with MisRevistas.

But That’s Not All

With a musical style that seamlessly blends pop and folk/rock, Joaquina’s unique sound is heavily influenced by her musical idols, such as Taylor Swift, Shakira, and Rosalía. Her dedication to creating music continues to shine through, as evidenced by her latest single, «Quise Quererte,» released in 2023. The song was produced by Julio Reyes Copello he himself earned two nominations at the 2023 Latin Grammys for his outstanding work on Los Mejores Años.

Sometimes, it’s challenging to let go of the pain and resentment associated with someone who has caused us harm. However, as time passes, we realize that the best course of action is to move forward, cherishing the positive aspects of the person we once knew. It’s about acknowledging, ‘I know I wanted to love you, and I don’t regret it.”

Joaquina’s remarkable talent has not only touched the hearts of her fans but has also attracted the admiration of numerous international artists. Icons like Sebastián Yatra, Pablo Alborán, Aitana, and others eagerly follow her journey on various social media platforms, recognizing her as a rising star in the music industry. So, one thing is clear: Joaquina’s music journey has only just begun.
