Frank Ocean has been one of the most awaited artists to perform at Coachella 2023 edition. However, his participation in the music festival has been marked by several incidents that have left a bittersweet feeling among his fans.

After the cancellation of his second performance at Coachella this weekend, the organizers released the latest schedule of performances. According to a tweet from Coachella’s official Twitter account, Blink-182 is not replacing Frank Ocean’s performance at the festival. The band is set to perform from 9:20 to 10:20 p.m. just before the unidentified closing act. The final show of the weekend is anticipated to begin at 10:25 p.m.

The Incidents around Frank Ocean’s Presence at Coachella

In the first wekeend in the desert, Frank Ocean’s concert was initially announced for Coachella’s livestream on YouTube, but it was cancelled from the online schedule just hours before the set. This caused the dissapointment of many fans who wanted to watch the Ocean’s festival-closing performance for the first time in 6 years.

Moreover, Frank Ocean’s set has also drew mixed interviews among his fans. While some of them praised him (including Justin Bieber, who said he was blown away and deeply moved by Ocean’s show), others criticized the singer for being late and ending his concert in an abruptly way.

Now, only a few days after and with weekend 2’s performances around the corner, Frank Ocean’s Cancellation has just been made official due to an injury he has suffered on the festival grounds days before his first scheduled performance.

Ocean’s show “was adjusted at the last minute to account for an ankle injury the singer sustained during on-site rehearsals in the week leading up to the festival», according to Rolling Stone’s sources. In this sense, Frank’s injury was «serious enough» for the artist production to be changed. The incident reportedly took place while he was riding on one of the bicycles that staff use to get around Coachella Grounds.

«After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1, Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity,» Ocean’s representative said to Entertainment Tonight.

The artist has not yet publicly commented on this situation.

Absence from the Stages

Frank Ocean is one of the most acclaimed singers and songwriters in the US. Known for his avant-garde style and introspective lyrics, Ocean has developed an amazing music career. He has won two Grammy Awards and a Brit Awards for International Male Solo Artists and his two studio albums were included in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list in 2020.

However, his absence on the stage is not new. From 2017 onwards, Ocean has released sporadic singles, worked as a photographer for several magazines and also launched his own fashion brand, ‘Homer‘, but he has not made any performances since his last show at the 2017 Flow Festival in Finland.
