The music video features Milan and Sasha in a very touching facet, but also many symbols with a great significance to the family

‘Acróstico’ represents a whole change of register after dropping some of the striking breakup songs, from ‘Te Felicito’ to the explosive BZRP #53 session, after the polemic split with Spanish former soccer player, Gerard Piqué. This new release gives off a much softer rhythm, with some emotional verses that are dedicated to her sons, Sasha and Milan.

Precisely, they both show here their artistic skills singing and playing the piano together with their mum. A very moving music clip that even shows several references with a lot of meaning, like the last boxes left in their home in Barcelona before moving to Miami.

References in ‘Acróstico’ Music Videos

The Piano

One of the first scenes in the video focuses on the side of the white piano in the living room of the family home. A detail you may not have noticed are the initials written on the side “MyL”, in reference to Milan and Sasha. Shakira herself announced the participation of her two sons in the video after they spent many hours exploring their artistic facets. In fact, Milan and Sasha were the ones that wanted to join Shakira in the music video of ‘Acróstico’.

Duck Toys

According to several analyses in social media, the ducks could be a symbol of Shakira and Pique’s split. Both of them celebrate their birthday on February 2, so that will explain the two ducks together. However, in the music video, both toys are placed looking each to one side, as their paths weren’t going to meet again. A hidden reference that clearly represents the family situation they have gone through.

Moving Boxes

In this case, the reference is wide clear. Shakira is moving to Miami with her children after divorcing Piqué, trying to find a new place to grow and leave the past behind. The feeling of seeing so many important things and memories packed in boxes is quite shocking and touching.

 Memories and Toys

Teddy bears, photos and books represent some of the clearest ways to convey the passage of time in the video. Milan and Sasha were born in Barcelona and they have lived all their life in the home where the music clip is filmed, so all of their personal belongings through the years become so special and important at this moment. We can also see a lovely detail in the video, a book with a cover that reads ‘Te quiero Milan’.

Blinds closing

The shutters closing and giving way to darkness symbolize the end of a stage in those four walls that until now were a home. In fact, the whole music video represents an act of saying goodbye to their previous life, while the lyrics remind Milan and Sasha that they will always be accompanied.
