Rosalía Sings About a Fleeting Love Story With a Woman in ‘Tuya’

The Catalan artist drops a very special song in Pride Month

There is no doubt that Rosalía is very intentional in her actions. She has released ‘Tuya’, a song in which the passion between two women is the main theme during Pride Month. And we love it because all support for the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community is more than welcome. An awaited release that she’ll present on Los40 on Monday, June 10.

Rosalía’s smooth voice and the visual journey through different locations in Tokyo make this new single a sensory experience. Through sensual visuals and experimental rhythms (including the Japanese koto melody), the artist describes a feeling of passion and fleeting lust that arises during one night with a woman: «Solo esta noche soy tuya, tuya / Solo esta noche eres mía, mía / Tú me quiere’ ver desnu’a, uh-ah / Yo a ti debajo ‘e mi ombligo, yeah».

However, her fate changes as she notes in the song’s denouement, where she addresses a man (perhaps her fiancé, Rauw Alejandro? «Tú ere’ un hijo ‘e puta con suerte porque me encontraste /Pégate a mí para que te dé buena suerte / Abrázame y no me sueltes”, she goes.

«Exploring is part of what I am as a musician and in the case of ‘TUYA’, inspirations such as reggaeton, Asian music, flamenco or gabber techno coexist at the same level», explains Rosalía through the press release of the music video premiere.

The manga/anime, local food, traditional hot baths, the hustle and bustle of the Japanese capitale the feeling of anonymity… Everything seems to give her a boost of happiness, as an artist who is already happy pours her personal emotions into every note of her songs. Additionally, there are references, nods, and indirect messages whose meanings will generate much discussion, such as the 22:22 at the end…

For its creation, she collaborated with producers Chris Jedy and Gaby Music, who were also behind another one of the most important songs in her discography: ‘Despechá’.

Undoubtedly, this theory of romance of the Catalan singer has brought a smile to our faces. And it’s because we love anything that adds to the legend of Rosalía. Whether it’s true or not, what truly matters is that ‘Tuya’ will become one of the songs of the year.

And you, have you already listened to ‘Tuya’?
