Anda Ya!, Los40’s morning show, welcomes the most international diva: Rosalía! The Catalan singer got up early roday to join Dani Moreno, El Gallo, and Cristina Boscá to talk about her new single, ‘Tuya’.
In this new hit she hasn’t only lent her voice but also served once again as a producer, working with her team remotely. In addition, her European tour kicks off next Friday. After her magnificent performances at Primavera Sound Barcelona and the Madrid and Oporto editions, the artist will take her Motomami to Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, France… and she’ll return to Spain on July 7.
But even after almost a year and a half of touring the world, Rosalía doesn’t forget her roots and always takes a piece of her homeland wherever she goes. As she herself has stated on Anda Ya!, there is an essential item that never misses from her suitcase: olive oil. In addition to avocado, an essential ingredient for her toast and breakfast, this 100% Spanish product is a must-have in the star’s luggage.
Despite the exhaustion of the Motomami tour and going from one stage to another, Rosalía is unstoppable. Between stops, she even managed to release ‘Tuya‘!
«The satisfaction is that people can enjoy it and see that people are loving it» Rosalía expressed. And she will surely achieve it! Considering the success of Despechá and her collaborations with Rauw Alejandro, there is no doubt that it will be a hit. But what’s behind Tuya?
Rosalía revealed on Anda Ya! that her latest single is inspired by Japan. Not only the ambiance and style, but also the sound, as the singer used a traditional Japanese instrument.
«Tuya is inspired by its traditional music, but there is a mix of several layers that remind of one thing, but it’s not that», the singer explains regarding the koto. Additionally, Rosalía also plays with melisma melodies, an elaborate singing technique of changing the musical pitch of a syllable in a song. «It was perfect to be able to go there» she reminisces.
But that’s not all she clarifies. As with many of Rosalía’s songs, various theories and conspiracies have emerged about ‘Tuya’ and the hidden meaning of the relationship between two women. Some of the audience have started speculating about a supposed relationship between her and Hunter Schafer, the actress from Euphoria.
Regarding this, Rosalía is clear that she doesn’t endorse any theory but also doesn’t want to hinder the imagination of her fans: «How beautiful it is that everyone creates their own story… I love it. As a writer, I like others to create their own movie. I will never break the magic of this is fiction and this is personal».
For now, the singer is living in the present and still on tour, so she can’t even give a date for her highly anticipated wedding with Rauw Alejandro. That’s how she responded when asked about the meaning of a number, 22.22, on Anda Ya! However, the Catalan singer makes clear that it’s not a collaboration. «Everyone has to interpret it on their own, that’s the magic. The number 7 is closely related to related to luck,» she affirms.
Furthermore, she makes clear that, if she had to have a collaboration in mind with any artist, it would be Lana del Rey. «I think she’s incredible, her way of writing, she’s top-notch; she has a pretty cool universe». That’s why lately she can’t stop listening to one of her songs, «Say Yes to Heaven«.
Will she achieve it? Will we see a duet between Rosalía and Lana del Rey? Time will tell!
